Hi Families, This is our classroom website where I post information about what we are learning in class, ways to help your child at home, and events that are around the corner. I also send information home in a weekly newsletter but this is a great resource for seeing what we are learning and doing in the classroom. I try and post weekly or when needed as units and focuses change. I also like to post pictures of students working in the classroom. If you do not want your child on our website, please let me know.Feel free to look at old posts to get an idea about what to expect this year and see what your student will be learning! Also any feedback on how to make this more useful for families is always appreciated :)Thank you, Avery Fishavery_fish@centennial.k12.or.us(503)762-6100 x 4027*
At the beginning of this school year, we received 3 Chromebook carts. We've been using them for IXL mostly but we started using them to type up our writing. It was so much fun for the students to practice typing and publish their work! Here are some of our protecting nature reports:
All I want is a full week of school with my kiddos and here we are on what feels like winter break #2. I know it can be challenging to have this many days off from school but please help your child stay on track and continuing to work on their skills. Here are some great snow day activities that can keep your child's brain engaged:
- board games
- cooking (following a recipe)
- building a snowman or fort
- any outside play!
- limited screen time
- learn a new card game
See you on Tuesday! (No school on Monday- MLK, Jr. Day)
This year we are book buddies with Ms. Lord's 5th grade class! We meet our book buddies on Wednesday mornings. Half of us stay in our room and half of us travel to Ms. Lord's room. Right now we are reading and enjoying books together but we're hoping to do art projects, work on writing, math skills, etc. Book buddies are a fun way to get to know other students at Butler Creek!
The jog-a-thon has been moved to Thursday due to weather.
Remember to wear athletic clothes and shoes! We will be running for 30 minutes.
Please turn in all pledge forms on Thursday. After the jog-a-thon, I will staple their lap card on the pledge for so families can start collecting money. Thank you for helping us raise money for things like field trips, classroom needs, and other things for our students.
Nightly reading starts tonight! In their backpack, your child brought home a bag with important papers, their reading log, and a book. The goal is to read for 20-30 minutes every night. Please have your child fill in the information on the reading log and you need to sign off that they actually read. They can read to you, a sibling, a pet, to themselves, a neighbor, etc. The goal is to be practicing reading at home every single night. In the mornings, I will check off their reading log and they will get a new book!
If you child reads more than just the HW book, please mark it in their reading log. I love to see kids doing extra reading at home :)
If your child misses a night of reading, it is up to them to make it up by reading twice in one night. That means reading two books or reading for 40-60 minutes. Please help them be on top of their work!
Please let me know if you have any questions. HAPPY READING!
I am so excited to start another year at Butler Creek and can't wait to get to know your child. It is a privilege to spend most days with your child and I can't wait to learn, grown, and care for each other.
I will work hard to keep posting regularly so you can see what we are working on in our classroom. I will also post pictures of students in action. If you don't want your child on our website, please let me know.
I'm always just a call or email away if you have any questions, concerns, or want to share important information about your child.
Thank you for all you do to make sure your child is ready for school everyday. I am thankful for all your hard work and how much you care about your child's success in school. It does not go unnoticed! It's been wonderful talking to families during conferences and I'm ready for another day! Here are pictures of students sharing their turkeys with the class. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
